Jan Batiuk was raised in Southern Ontario, where she earned a Joint Specialist Degree in History and English from the University of Toronto. She later specialized in coordinating Special Events, which led her to working with people from varying backgrounds. After receiving her first cornea transplant, Jan worked in the organ and tissue donation field for five years. During that period she spearheaded a National Awareness Campaign on the need for organ and tissue donation.

She has been the guest speaker for numerous conferences across the country. Her speeches told of stories filled with hope in the face of tragedy. Working with families who had recently lost a loved one or with individuals facing imminent death led her to reevaluate her own views on life and spirituality. A hands-on healing experience with one of her children led her to explore the world of Reiki and eventually become a Reiki Master. She is a Reiki practitioner at a cancer support centre and has a Reiki and Sound Healing practice. One of her main passions is helping people discover their own spirituality.

She is presently working on the sequel to Life Is A Song Waiting To Be Released. She currently resides in Calgary, Alberta with her husband, three children, and beloved standard schnauzer.
